 A Special Occasion

“The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.”  ~Aristotle When a person succeeds and reaches his goal, all the previous difficulties and great efforts he had experienced become treasured memories. And that what really happened to me when I reached the last semester in university and there are only few weeks and I would become a real graduate. Graduation from university is a very special occasion because it is a unique achievement not every person can reach.

The night of our graduation party shall never go out of my memory. The view of a huge number of graduates wearing a unified gown gathering together is indeed majestic. Moreover, we were honored by shaking hands with her Royal Highness the wife of prince Mohammad bin Fahad, God bless him, who supported that occasion. The smiles on our mother’s faces were the real gifts and charming awards.    

Actually, I have spent a delightful four years in university where I have learned many magical things. During that period I have come to realize that hopes and dreams never end and we should look forward to the end of the tunnel and not to look back at all. I have learned that future should be well planned and struggle should be our symbol. Moreover,  I have figured out that smile and optimism should be the inexhaustible sources that keep up the hard work until the end of the road. Desire and hope should push us on towards the future. Those four years have refined my abilities and reshaped my character.

I am so grateful to many people who were with me among that period either physically or spiritually. First of all, my parents; without your support, I would not be able to do anything. My teachers: your great effort and encouraging remarks were the secret behind my success. My friends: without being among you, I might have become another person. It is worthless to say that I was alone walking in that long and tiresome road.

Graduation is not the end; it is the beginning.“You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative.         Hello ladies

     First of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am Khadija Al-Khalaf; one of summer course students who have indulge in such nice experience before. I am in my fourth year at university; I have practice teaching now and I will graduate at the end of this semester en shaa Allah.

     Regarding my previous experience in blog work with Mrs. Manal, I would say “it was extremely remarkable thing in our university stage.” Now, you might feel nervous because you are so busy; exactly like us before, but when you finish; like us now, you would remember very special and cheerful times. I am sure that most of you; if not all of you, visit websites daily and participate in many forums for pleasure. And this is the same, but the only difference is that you do it here in English which is very beneficial and useful for you as under graduated students. So you throw two birds by the same stone; you have pleasure and fun and you practice writing English in things amaze you. Oh, I am not here to advice you, but I am saying my opinion honestly.

     Speaking about my present practice teaching experience, it seems little bit boring. And this is what drives me to participate with you in this blog. In my opinion, studying is more interesting than teaching. What terribles me most is the pupils. Dealing with new generations is so much difficult. If you want my advice, study the psychology of the new generation to cope with much troubles better than me.

Hello everybody:

    I thought a lot about what I would write about for the last week, but I could not decide. I have many ideas in my mind, but I could not start writing about anyone. Oh, I should choose any topic let the turn for you. Ok, today I would like to talk about MONEY.

Is money really everything in life?

I think money is not everything, and there are other things in life more important than money. I think money is necessary for me but it is not all of my purpose in my live.

It is just a common sense that:
“With money, you can buy a house but not a home. With money, you can buy a clock but not time. With money, you can buy a bed but not sleep. With money, you can buy a book but not knowledge. With money, you can buy a doctor but not health. With money, you can buy a position but not respect. And With money you can buy blood but not life.”

I do believe that money is very central thing in our lives.   
Without money, we are not able to live… If we would be able to live without the money so why do we work! I do not believe that some people work for their pleasure only… They work, they spent 8 hours or more in a work, they do not like their bosses, their boring offices – but they go there every day to earn money! Of course, money is not the thing that can make us happy, but we feel secure, safe and calm when we know that our bank account is not empty!

I am looking forward to knowing your opinions.

Today, I would like to speak more spontaneously and honestly at the same time. At the beginning of our work in this blog, I said to myself ” we do not have time to waste in such thing, we have three courses, the time in summer is extremely limited, and our research paper preoccupies the whole time.” Although I did my all job in the first week,  ‘ the post, the assignment, comments…etc.’   , I felt enforced to do it; I did it just to get rid of a heavy burden because it is part of the course that I am studying. But now, actually, all that feelings have gone. I can say it with a full mouth that I like the blog, I enjoy it, and it becomes part of my daily routine.

    Regardless of he benefit that the blog provides in writing, it is extremely helpful in many ways. It makes me near to my colleagues even though not face to face, but at least via writing. I come to know more about many of them that I was not familiar with even their names before. It is a good chance to say whatever we want. I addition, the topics that Miss Manal suggests for discussion are very interesting, new, and useful at the same time. Now I am very happy that we have such remarkable thing in summer. The experience would linger with me until the end of my life. I do not think that I might forget it one day.

Finally, I would like to say that you are very amazing Miss Manal. I hope that I have known you before. Thank you a lot for providing us with such significant thing in summer. I would like to ask you would we continue with each other in this blog after we finish Research course. “I hope so.”

Laughter is the Best Medicine

At least nine out of every ten illnesses are caused — or at least made worse — by stress, pressure and anxiety. It seems that the way we respond to problems and troubles can produce many symptoms of ill health. But although our minds can make us ill, they can also make us better and help us to stay healthy. Do you know how? I would tell you.

 From my browsing in the internet, I discovered that there are a number of ways in which you can use your mind to improve your health:

1. Laugh as much as you can. Laughter is a positive, natural phenomenon which helps you by improving respiration, lowering blood pressure and ‘toning up’ the heart. Do you know that before?

2. If you feel sad, then cry. Research has shown that tears do not just provide an important stress relief valve — they help the body get rid of harmful chemical wastes. If you suppress your natural instinct to cry, than you are increasing your chances of acquiring a stress-related disorder. So cry as much as you can!!!!!!

3. Anger is a killer!!!!!!! Diseases such as high blood pressure, strokes and heart disease are all common consequences of uncontrolled anger. Find a positive way to release it, such as through physical exercise or talking about your problems. I really need such thing!

4. A lack of confidence can be very destructive, so build it up. You can do this by imagining that you are creating an advertisement for yourself, writing down all your good points. You will probably be surprised to find out how many virtues you have. Try it please!

5. Smile as much as you can. We all respond to the face we see — for example, if you see someone yawn, you feel tired and if you see someone scowling, then you will feel cross. If people see you smiling, then they will smile back at you. They will like you, too.

I want to see your smile at your face all the time just as a little kid, ok.

 6. Boredom is one of the biggest killers in our society! Be prepared to take risks and chances to add excitement to your life. If you do not take risks, you will never know what you can achieve. Do not be bored from what I am saying, please!

7. Put purpose into life. By adding ambition, hope and purpose, you will give yourself new powers with which to combat the stresses and strains associated with frustrations, boredom and pressure. Do have objectives in your life?

8. Get into the habit of following your instincts. Practice first with minor decisions — what to eat and wear. You will be surprised at how good your unconscious mind is at making decisions for you. Try it please, you promise me!

    Society today has brain washed. People believe that in order for them to look beautiful they must look like the Hollywood figures or the images seen on television, in movies and on the cover of magazines.

   Over the last two decades, plastic surgery has become very popular. As a result, people have become fascinated with this idea. What does plastic surgery refer to? It is a medical operation to repair or improve somebody’s skin or appearance.

There are two types of plastic surgery – constructive and cosmetic.

   The first one is for those people who had an accident or are physically deformed so they need constructive surgery. I agree with this type of p.s. if necessary.

    Cosmetic surgery is for those people who want to look more beautiful and are not satisfied with what God has given to them. I am against this type and I can recognize how ridiculous it is.

   A study by Psychology Today magazine shows that many people are not satisfied with their looks: 60,000,000 do not like their noses; 30,000,000 do not like their lips; 6,000,000 do not like their ears and 6,000,000 do not like their eyes. And after these statistics, you can recognize how valid you are.

I am against it for several reasons.

1- Once you do it you have to keep repeating it. Facelift surgery may make you look younger for a few years, but life goes on and the wrinkles come back. One breast implant operation will require another, or perhaps two, during the course of your life. After you have your nose shape changed, you would feel that it does not fit with your cheeks and you would think of changing their shapes. Afterward, you would consider your lips and this story would not end at all.

2-Every single person is unique and that is what makes life so special. After the popularity of cosmetic surgery, you can hardly distinguish the pictures of songstresses or actresses; they are all have the same shape of their noses, of their lips, and of their cheeks. 

3-Not all plastic surgery procedures are successful. A number of surgeries have already failed. Most of them could lead to very bad results. After surgeries, most people look worse. Perhaps you can look at the picture of Michael Jackson, and you can recognize how awful it is. This is alone should scare people away from cosmetic surgery.

4-You are well prepared for that cosmetic surgery procedure, ok, but are you ready to take care of yourself after the procedure is over?  In any case, plastic surgery is far from pain free.

    Plastic surgery procedures often lead to pain, stress and anxiety as your body recovers and tries to repair itself. Pain from plastic surgery can linger for weeks and even months, are you ready to bear all these?

5-Plastic surgery can reconstruct your body and renew your confidence, but can you accept the risks involved?  Although the technological advancements of today may seem to have improved the results of cosmetic surgery, more complications can also arise from inappropriate training of the surgeon.

     With the increase of untrained surgeons performing these procedures, the risk of death and inappropriate results also increases greatly.

     Most of these doctors perform their surgeries in unhealthy conditions. Because of this, infections can occur after the surgery has been performed. Dirty tools can cause bacteria to be present in the body after the surgery, resulting in infection and sometimes death. To many doctors the patient is not a person; he or she is merely money in the doctors’ pocket. 

     Many cases of deaths have been reported because of cosmetic surgery procedures. One report stated that over an 18-month period, 69 serious outcomes of surgery were reported.  Al-Jamela magazine has reported that a very beautiful teenager has died in a very simple liposuction surgery undertaken by great doctors in a very famous hospital in Lebanon and nobody knew the causes of her death. She lost her life and her story is still a mystery.

     Finally I would say that God have created us like this, and it is not our right to change the bodies we are given and transform them into ‘something’ else. God says in his Holy Koran that he has created us in the most tidy and organized way. 

     People are only concerned with the fact of being beautiful, but they do not care about the price they have to pay, which could ultimately be their own life. I do believe that the ideal body image has to be thrown away, and replaced by the idea that everyone is a special human being.
